Color Eggs

This Easter tradition dates back to ancient times, when Egyptians and Persians traded decorated eggs at the beginning of spring to celebrate fertility.

Supplies:

· Toothpicks

· Liquid Or Paste Food Coloring

· Metal Spoons

· White Vinegar

· Cups

· White Hard-boiled Eggs

· Kitchen Knives

· Water

· Metal Tongs

· Empty Paper Towel Rolls

1. Set out a cup or bowl for each color. They must be deep enough to accommodate eggs.

2. Cut an empty paper towel roll into sections; you'll set your finished eggs on them to dry.

3. Scoop a gob of paste-type food coloring (found in the cake decorating section of craft stores) out of the container with a toothpick.

4. Stir it into a cup or bowl with 1 c. very hot water until it's dissolved.

5. Add 1/4 c. white vinegar.

6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the various colors.

7. Dip white hard-boiled eggs into the bowls using a metal spoon or tongs.

8. Place the dyed eggs on the egg holders to dry.

Fingerprint Easter Eggs

Supplies:

Directions:

Have a simple picture of an empty eater basket or draw one. Get different color paints in shallow dishes and let the kids dip their thumbs and make Easter eggs in the basket

Filter Paper Eggs

Supplies:
Coffee Filters
Water
Food coloring
Eye Droppers

Directions:
Precut egg shapes out of coffee filters. Mix water with the basic colors. Let the children use eyedroppers to drip colors on the filter shape. The colors will run together and make beautiful eggs.

Baby Chicks

Supplies:

Small Cotton Ball (or Yellow pom pom)

Yellow Powdered tempera paint

Googly eyes

Orange paper beak

Egg carton (or clean and dry egg shell)

Glue

Directions:

Take a small cotton ball and dip it in the powdered yellow paint. Then add eyes and beaks however you want. Take the chick and glue it into a piece of an egg carton.

Snack Suggestion: Easter Chick Nests

Make a batch of drop sugar cookies. While they are cooling, dye coconut green, get a bag of jelly beans, white cake frosting, and a box of marshmallow peeps. Take the cake icing and spread it on the cool cookie. Sprinkle some of the tinted coconut. Place the marshmallow peep on top. Take some of the jelly beans and place them around the peep. This is a fun snack for children 2 and older.
